The Will of God

Excerpts from The Will of God as a Way of Life by Jerry Sittser:

I discovered that the Bible says very little about the will of God as a future pathway.  Instead, the Bible warns us about anxiety and presumption concerning the future, assures us that God is in control, and commands us to do the will of God as we already know in the present.

We simply need to do what we already know in the present.  God has been clear where clarity is most needed.  The choices we make every day… determine whether or not we are doing the will of God.  If we have a problem, it is not lack of knowledge; rather, it is our unwillingness to respond to the knowledge we have.

The only time we really have both to know and do God’s will is the present moment.  We are to love God with heart, sould, mind, and strength, and we are to love our neighbors as we love ourselves.  These are the basic responsibilities Jesus challenged us to pay attention to….

If we truly seek God above all, then we will always be doing the will of God, no matter where our particular choices lead us, because seeking God’s kingdom first is God’s will.

What he discovered is not true. His assumption , or belief is the by product of his ignorance of the word of God, and of the bible as a whole. Jeanne , for your information , the will of the Father, ARE MORE THAN 150 of them. And you have to follow or obey all of them. You have to base your way of living, on the will of the Father. That is how a TRUE CHRISTIAN should do.

    Understand the ff. verses :
    1. For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and YET offend in one point, HE IS GUILTY OF ALL . (James 2:10 )
    2. FEAR God, and KEEP His commandments : for this is THE WHOLE DUTY of man. ( Ecclesiastes 12:13 )
    3. If any man WILL DO HIS WILL , he shall know of the DOCTRINE, whether it be of God , or whether I speak of mytself. (John 7:17 )
    4. Beloved, BELIEVE NOT every spirit, BUT TRY the spirits whether they are of God : Because MANY false prophets are gone out into the world. ( I John 4:1 )

I pray that you will understand about this kind of reply to your post. I’m just following the order of the Spirit of God, that is in me. Cause if I have not the Spirit of God, I could not do anything. And if I can’t do anything, why should I care about your post .? That is the only logic I can gave you. So I must do, what I must do. To CORRECT and to INFORM , and to STOP those mouths who subvert whole houses, teaching things which they ought not, for filthy lucre’s sake.( Titus 1:11)

Thank you, unnamed friend, for taking the time to read and comment. While I didn’t actually finish this book and don’t intend to try and defend its contents, the reason these particualr quotes were significant to me was that the author (to my understanding) was saying we should not be so concerned with discerning (by feeling and/or signs?) some mysterious “will of God for my future”, a concept I’ve heard talked about a lot, but rather acting as He has already instructed us to act in Scripture. As far as that I don’t see where your point is at variance with his.

    Lady Jeanne,
Yes it’s true, that he instructed you to act in scripture But the big question is, did he understand the scripture ?How can someone act if he does not understand the scripture. Even you, had this understanding of his article that there are some mysterious “will of God for your future”. There is no mysterious will of God ! They are all plain to him that understand, and right to them that find knowledge (Proverbs 8:9 ) . Also He talked about the will of God, …the will of God,..the will of God,.but , did he himself obey the will of God ? certainly not. How did I know it ? He does not understand what he is talking ! And another thing , what” WILL” are we talking about here ? The commandments of Moses , or the commandments of Christ ?
Have you , yourself understand the will of God?

The commandments of Jesus Christ are these:
    1. Seek ye first the Kingdom of God, and His righteousness (Matthew 6:33)
    Question: HOW?
Answer: Thus SAITH the Lord, STAND ye in the ways, and SEE, and ASK for the OLD PATHS, where is the GOOD WAY , and WALK THEREIN, and ye shall FIND REST for your souls.(Jeremiah 6:16)
    2. You must have to have FAITH (beginner’s faith).
understand the verse: So then FAITH cometh by HEARING, and hearing by the word of God ( Romans 10:17)
Question : To whom will you hear?
Answer : to a preacher SENT BY GOD (Romans 10:15
Question: How shall you know if he is sent by God ?
Answer: a) For he whom God HATH SENT speaketh the words of God : for God giveth not the Spirit by measure unto him.(John 3:34)
    b) If any man will do his will, he shall know of THE DOCTRINE, whether it be of God, or whether I speak of myself (John 7:17)
    c) Look for this sign in a preacher : Settle it therefore in your hearts `NOT TO MEDITATE before what ye shall answer : For I will give you A MOUTH and WISDOM, which all your adversaries shall not be able to gainsay nor resist (Luke 14-15)
    3. You have to TURN ASIDE the right of a man before the face of the most high (Lamentation 3:35)
    4. Abhor that which is evil, CLEAVE to that which is GOOD (Romans 12:9) And the Church of God , that is written in the bible is Good.
    5. And be baptize .
After you have known, what I have written, considering the verses in the bible,
the big question now is, ARE YOU WILLING TO OBEY THE WILL OF GOD?
And anothing thing ; Don’t believe him about “not be so concerned with discerning( by feeling and /or signs “cause it is not true. It is just a byproduct of being ignorant of the bible.
